Polyquaternium-10, commonly called PQ-10 for short, is a polymeric quaternary ammonium compounded with hydroxyethyl cellulose. It is a cationic polymer with excellent compatibility with anionic surfactant systems, which makes it a great ingredient for formulating 2-in-1 conditioning shampoo.
PQ-10 is an excellent anti-static and conditioning agent in various hair care products. It clings to the hair keratin, which is negatively charged after being washed with anionic surfactants and forms a positively charged surface. Such a positively charged surface(a thin film) gives the hair a soft and shiny feel and increases the hair body and suppleness observably.
PQ-10 also finds broad use in skin care products, like body lotions and moisturizers. It absorbs onto the skin and forms a thin film which then absorbs moisture from the surroundings to make the skin soft and moisturized.
Stable at a wide pH range, except in strong acid and alkali.
Pack in tight-closed containers(drums or tanks); Store in a dry, ventilated and cool place; Kept away from direct sun and water.
Under proper storage conditions, the shelf life of PQ-10 is 12 months.
The recommended dosage of PQ-10 in hair and skin care products is 0.1%-0.8%.
