Sodium oleate usually appears as white to slightly yellow powder or light brownish yellow coarse powder, and sometimes as colorless to slightly yellow powder or paste. It has good solubility in hot water and can be dissolved in about 10 times the amount of water to form a viscous liquid, and the aqueous solution is alkaline. In addition, sodium oleate can also be dissolved in about 20 times the amount of ethanol, but is almost insoluble in ether and other organic solvents. Its melting point is usually between 232~235ºC, and its density is 0.9g/cm³
