Dimethicone, also known as dimethylpolysiloxane or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is one of the polymeric organosilicon compounds. Dimethicone is the most widely used silicon-based organic polymer. It finds use in many fields, including medication, food, and personal care. Its consumption in hair and skin care is the most large-scale. 

In hair care products like shampoos and hair conditioners, Dimethicone can work as a lubricant and a conditioning agent, which repairs damaged hair effectively and makes hair shiny and slippery after use. It also works as an effective treatment for head lice on the scalp. 

In skin care products like body lotions and moisturizers, Dimethicone is widely used as skin protection, as it calms irritation, minimizes redness, moisturizes skin, and leaves a uniform waterproof protective film after being applied to the skin.
