Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, also known as DLS for short, is a very mild, non-irritating anionic surfactant. It features excellent detergency, yet with medium degreasing power, which enables the final product to clean well and leaves the skin and hair a delicate feeling after washing. DLS is considered by far the best choice of a primary surfactant to formulate sulfate-free gentle hair and skin care products.
The other highlight of DLS is that it produces very rich and delicate foam during washing and can be easily rinsed off, leaving very low residue. DLS is commonly used to make high-end gentle shampoos, baby bath lotions, and facial cleansers for tender care.
However, it must be noted that DLS can only be used in formulations with a pH range of 5.0-7.0; it must not be compounded directly with ingredients with a pH above 7.0.
