Cetearyl Alcohol, commonly known as 1618 Alcohol, is a mixture of hexadecanol and octadecanol alcohols, which are both long-chain fatty alcohols. Cetearyl alcohol has been long used as a viscosity builder and stabilizer in hair & skin care formulations. It can help the products to form a homogeneous and stable body with a heavy texture. Due to its long oil-soluble tail, Cetearyl Alcohol does not penetrate and break the skin barrier, thus is non-drying and non-irritating to the skin.
In hair care products, Cetearyl Alcohol works as an excellent lubricating agent to make wet hair easier to comb when washing, and it clings to the hair keratin to make the hair soft and supple after drying. In skin care products, Cetearyl Alcohol works as an emollient, softening, soothing, and moisturizing the skin.
Stable at a wide pH range, except in strong acid and alkali.
